You’ve probably heard of the Eisenhower Matrix (a.k.a. the Urgent-Important Matrix). It’s a smart framework that helps you decide on and prioritize tasks by urgency and importance, sorting out less urgent and important tasks which you should either delegate or not do at all.
 

But there’s one type of task the matrix doesn’t deal with well:

The small, annoying to-dos that are neither urgent nor important — yet somehow still demand our attention.

These are the things we can’t really delegate, and they don’t feel critical enough to schedule… so we just keep postponing them.

The problem?

A. They pile up. What starts as a few small potatoes eventually turns into a full sack weighing down our mental clarity.
 

B. Even if each task is trivial, together they create cognitive clutter. They drain energy and occupy space in our mind — space we could use for more meaningful work.
 

The Fix: The 10-Minute Task Purge
 

Here’s the rule:

If a task takes 10 minutes or less, don’t schedule it. Don’t write it down again. Just do it.
 

Chances are, it’ll take even less time than you thought. And you’ll free yourself from the nagging mental load it creates.
 

So next time you’re tempted to jot it down for the 8th time… stop.
Handle it. Cross it off before it ever gets on the list.
